How to customize your desktop for Mac

While many things only work on MacOS, Apple limits, not surprisingly, what users can and cannot configure on MacOS. They call it System Integrity Protection or SIP for short. After all, this system blocks most (deep) moods, but that does not mean that there is no hope. Let’s see how you can set up a Mac without Apple permission.

Add your own background image

This is not the most exciting configuration method, but replacing the default background with your own is a good place to start. Apple offers a variety of background images, including dynamic backgrounds that change automatically over time, or you can add your own. Wallpapers are easy to find on websites such as Desktop Nexus, Simple Desktops, Wallhaven and many others. Once you have downloaded the wallpaper of your choice, turn it on quickly.

1. Start by right-clicking on your desktop and select Change desktop background. Make sure the desktop is selected at the top.

3. Tap any screenshot and it will be applied automatically. Note that most websites offer backgrounds of different sizes. So make sure you know the screen resolution of your MacBook or iMac for best compatibility.

Dock-Twiki

The docking station on every MacBook or iMac is one of the most iconic parts of Apple software. Lean tuning is a good step to customize your Mac. One of the most popular settings of the Dock is to hide it when not in use. This saves space on the screen and prevents accidental clicking. To enable this feature, go to System Preferences -> Doc and select the Automatically display and hide Doc checkbox.

To remove unnecessary requests from the pier, simply click on the icon and remove it from the pier. If you want to download a new application and save it to the Dock, it’s just as easy. If the application you want to keep open, right-click on the application icon and select Leave on the Dock. You can also go back to System Preferences -> Dock and change the size of the icons. If you need additional configuration options, applications like uBar are even more versatile and claim to improve performance.

Folder configuration

It’s one of the easiest ways to set up your Mac, and Apple even offers its own tutorial, so you’ll know it’s a proven method.

Light or dark mode

For years, Apple’s computer users have shouted and begged to shut down the company. Apple will eventually be shipped with MacOS Mojave and later. Activating dark mode requires no more than a few clicks.

1. Start by opening the Apple menu at the top left of the screen and selecting System Preferences.

2. Search for General and select one of the display options at the top of the window.

If you choose to use Dark Mode, you will benefit from the fact that dozens of applications automatically enable Dark Mode in their individual settings when it is set as the system default. Examples of standard Apple applications such as Mail, Maps, Notes, Safari and TextEdit are basic examples of this sharing.

You can even use these tips to make dark mode even darker.

Custom color scheme

How to customize your desktop for Mac

With the arrival of MacOS Mojave, Apple has made it possible to mix and match different colour schemes. By adding this feature, any Mac user can change the system’s accent colors so everything looks fresh over time. You can choose from different colors for accents and accent colors. Whichever color you choose, you’ll see it in the various menus, buttons, backlighting, and a number of other MacOS elements.

It’s unlikely that Apple will ever give users full control over the entire configuration of their Mac. However, these simple settings allow at least a certain amount of customization so your Mac can look and feel different than other MacOS users. What’s your favorite Mac?
